Grand Tourney Rules
from the GT2000 packet

General Rules
» Armies consist of up to 1500 points from a Standard Force Organization chart. Only one detachment is allowed.
» If the Codex is available for the army, it must be used; otherwise the army lists in the rulebook can be used.
» Tyranids cannot use the Mycetic Assault or Tyranid Infestation.
» Space Marines may not deploy using Drop Pods.
» The Jungle Fighting rules from the Catachan Codex may not be used.
» Dark Eldar do not automatically get to go first and must roll off.
» No Citadel Journal armies may be used except for the Adeptus Arbites list.
» Special characters may not be used.
» No allies may be used except Heroes of the Imperium.
» None of the optional rules from "Ultimate Secrets of the Galaxy" may be used.
» All models must be Citadel models, they must be appropriate for the models they represent, and they must be painted.
» All weapons, options, and upgrades chosen for the troops and vehicles must be shown on the model (WYSIWYG).
» All dice are provided by Games Workshop so leave your "lucky dice" at home.

Tournament Game Play Rules
» Each player will play six games against six different opponents.
» Games last five turns or two hours, whichever comes first. Play must stop when time is called.
» You must use the same army in every game you play.
» Before each game is a 15 minute set-up period. This time should be used to set up terrain and look over your opponent's army list. You must provide your army list for your opponent.
» At the start of each game all the terrain is placed on the table. Player take turns placing a piece of terrain. As their last turn, a player may decide to "hold" a piece of scenery and not use it.

Tournament Game Play Victory Points
» Victory: 12 points
» Draw: 9 points
» Loss: 6 points

(If the battle uses the Victory Points scenario rules, any result within 200 points of each other is considered a Draw.)

» +1 point if your opponent has won more games than you (not including this game)
» +1 point for killing the enemy HQ character worth the most points. Characters with a command squad or other bodyguard are worth +1 point even if the squad survives.
» +1 point if the enemy unit (not character) with the highest points value is dead, falling back, or left the table. If several units are tied for most expensive then you gain +1 point if any one of them is dead, falling back, or fled.
» +1 point if you have units in the opponent's deployment zone at the end of the game and they have none in yours (units under 50% strength, falling back, immobilized vehicles, and characters don't count).

» -1 point if, at the end of the game, no enemy unit has been reduced to half strength or less, or is falling back or fled.
» -1 point if the total number of Elite, Fast Attack, and Heavy Support choices is more than the total number of Troops choices in your army.
» -1 point if your army contains more than three vehicles with an AV12 or more.
» -1 point if you don't have units outside your own deployment zone at the end of the game
» -1 point if, in the opinion of a judge, you act in a manner likely to bring the honor of the hobby or the race of your army into question (hiding your Khorne Beserkers behind a wood to hold an objective, instead of charging a nearby enemy).

Army Appearance Scoring

4 Unfinished! The overall army looks rushed and incomplete. This score is typified by an army that has many noticeably unpainted models, no shading, patchy paint coverage, and sloppy basecoating.

9 Not quite the thing! A completely painted army that has some really good effort put into it, but some models may lack shading or exhibit patchy paint coverage and hurried basecoating.

12 Good! All the models and bases are done to a reasonably neat degree. Some units may have iconography, and effective shading and highlighting may have been used to enhance the models. Most armies are in this category. At this level you own an army to be justifiably proud of.

15 Very Good! A well-painted army. All models have iconography and effective shading and highlighting has been used to improve the appearance of the army. This army has some fantastic paint jobs or conversions on characters, but this level of expertise is not spread throughout the entire force.

20 Outstanding! The entire army is well presented, based, and shaded. Units have correct markings and thematic touches appropriate for that army. Bases are not just finished, but used as an opportunity to enhance the appearance of the army. The army may have a strong theme that has been carried through all the models in the army.

Army Composition Scoring

4 A "Tournament Army" - This is a trick army that is designed to purely win games at the expense of good background, history and fun. The army list and wargear combos are being exploited in ways clearly not intended by the designers. The player has put more effort into finding gimmicks and rules loopholes than creating a cool army to play and play against.

9 Slightly rigged - This force was put together to win games, with little or no regard for the background. There is no real theme going on behind the scenes of this army, or if there is it seems like an afterthought to explain a disproportionate amount of elite troops over the basic troops you would expect to see in this army. No effort to build a "proper" army for this particular race has been put forth, instead units have been chosen solely for their game effect. A bit more reliant on "rigged characters" and elites than troops and good strategy.

12 Appropriate Army - A good army, appropriate for the race it represents, but also designed to win games. Some units will have been chosen for their effect in game terms, but the army also includes examples of at least one or two of the most common troop types. Most players will fall under this category as well as "tournament armies" that have a strong theme developed for them.

15 Great Army - A good and fairly chosen army that is very appropriate for the race it represents. Contains a strong theme and characters and units have been named. Isn’t reliant on a long, convoluted story that explains how such an odd mix of troops got together.

20 Very Characterful! This army really captures the intended "spirit" of the race it represents. There is a strong theme, and you immediately suspect the force has been chosen with regards to background and appearance, rather than a tourney-winning army with a good them to "justify" it. It made us say, "Wow! That is exactly what I always imagined for a (fill in race here) army!"

Sportsmanship Scoring

4 UGH! - This person and their army wasn’t fun to play against at all. They might have been rude, argumentative, too manipulative or perhaps relying on a trick army. I’m a bit embarrassed to say I would never play them again.

9 Ok, but not quite the thing! - This person was all right to play against, we just didn’t get along that well. They might have been a bit too serious and ill-humored about the game, or maybe their competitive edge was too sharp. A tendency to interpret rules to their own advantage, but not to the point you’d call cheating. Given a choice you probably wouldn’t play this person again.

12 Enjoyable but unspectacular - This person was okay to game against. We had a decent time - a few heated moments, maybe rolling a D6 to sort things out. They had a reasonable army and I wouldn’t mind playing them again.

15 A REALLY good person to play against - They had a cool army, brought up a few rule problems, and played in the spirit of friendly competition. This person was fun to play against and I would really enjoy the opportunity to play them again.

20 Unbelievable! - This person gave me the best game of my life (or at least rivaled it). They were friendly and charming throughout the whole game and we didn’t have any rules problems, or if we did we worked them out amicably. I would go out of my way to play them again.
