Trenches
Just a quickie to learn how to use the hot wire cutter... These are built with a 1/2" styrofoam board for the backing, and the actual trench section is 1 1/2" think.
I started by cutting the trenches into the thicker board. As I cut out each
little block of styrofoam, I kept it to one side and I kept them in order as well. I'll
explain why in minute. Cut your trenches so that they are zig-zagged-- this keeps the
enemy from jumping into your trenches and having a line of sight all the way down. It
means you can defend the trenches from within.
Once you have cut your trenches your piece of styrofoam is going to fall in half, obviously, along with all of the pieces that you cut out to make the trench itself.
Glue to two halves of the trenches onto the 1/2" backing styrofoam.
My trenches are not as zig-zagged as they should be for proper defense. But,
because I kept the pieces that I cut out of the middle, I was then able to cut them to
varying heights and glue them down into the trenches again. Because the floor is sculpted
to varying heights, you can still stand in one portion of the trench and have cover from
farther down the line.
You can see here how the spotters on the front wall can see over, the mortars in the back are out of sight.

Still quite a bit of drybrushing left to be done, but a good start.
My next project is to put in planking all the way down the trench to shore up the sides. Not looking forward to it.
