Dark Eldar
I picked up the bulk of my DE force used, for a good price, and have done fairly well with
them so far. While I currently rely on Disintegrators doing most of my dirty work, I'm
looking to make more use of Elites and just a whole lot of troops. My current force is
pretty well-rounded, except for a lack of Wyches. Otherwise, I can represent all other
units.
My favorite unit is the Grotesques, even though they have so many things going against them--especially if you allow "shooting through gaps" to negate their screening ability. Still, the image of these twisted sadomasochistic fleshcraft creations bearing down on a unit--while eating torrents of small-arms fire--is just inspiring. I wish GW had made better models. I use Fantasy plastic zombies for mine.
My least favorite unit is the Wyches. I like them in concept, but I don't think they stand in a class by themselves. While they get a random drug, 1 special CCW (or 2 if they upgrade to a succubus), and the ability to take grenades--I would sooner take plain old warriors. If they had the Trukkboyz "bailing out" ability, or could choose what drug they take...I might've bought into them.
My Kabal is tentatively named "The Kabal of the Glowing Feast". They aren't pirates or mercenaries, but a private army owned by an entomologist. The eldest Haemonculus, yet unnamed, became wealthy because of his research on insects (some of the few animals you'll ever see native to Commorragh)--particularly extracting their venoms, assimilating their structural design, and using them in warp experimentation. He developed a hybrid of firefly and carnivorous beetle, with a combination of gene-splicing and warp exposure. In order for them to properly incubate, their eggs must be implanted within a living host--thus the need for prisoners of war, or masochists in search of a strange new source of pain. Thus, the Kabal of the Glowing Feast was financed. The old Haemonculus rarely partakes in the battles, but he is their source of coin when the booty is scarce, and tells them where their next job is to be. Before battle, many of the Warriors smear their armor with the luminscent ichor of the insects, so they are not mistaken for part of the feast! As a preliminary bombardment, Raiders make a sweeping pass over the enemy encampment, uncapping huge containers of the insects. As they descend upon their prey, they function like locusts-- blinding and devouring. Some manage to get within vehicles and wreak havoc on the drivers, causing them to crash. Infantry that are not killed by hundreds of toxic bites, or are blinded and rendered useless--are left shaking in the aftermath. Many of the casualties are caused simply by panic and friendly fire. Survivors are taken prisoner and used for experimentation, and the cycle begins again--hopefully with a new mutation.
Space Marines (Dark Angels
successor chapter)
I started painting a vanilla marines force, but only played one game with them so far.
Since I've developed a penchant for fast vehicles, I've decided to consider them a
successor chapter of the Dark Angels. Haven't given it a whole lot of thought yet, or come
up with any fluff...sorry.
Slaanesh Chaos Marines
This is a future project of mine, but I plan to do a lot of custom work--scratchbuilding
my own demons and steeds, and coming up with a lot of really bizarre fluff.
Army vs Army Spreadsheet
I hinted at possibly doing this on the board, but no progess has been
made yet (too much real life anxiety). At base, it'd be a huge dual-axis chart that
indicates the percentage chance a certain model has to wound another model. Every unit
type would be covered. I get a kick out of number-crunching, so I'm pretty sure I'll
eventually get to this...
