Tau vs Tyranids
Dawn Assault

The Tau had never been so relieved to see the symbol of the Imperium...emblazoned on a banner that was tattered by time and defeat, clutched in the skeletal arms of a forgotten soldier.  The skull of that young...ignorant boy smiling back at them as only a death's head could.  This abandoned outpost could be their salvation off this world infested by...old enemies with new faces.

As if the humans weren't bad enough, attacking their convoy in low orbit to satisfy their primal territorial nature, or instinctual xenophobia.  Surely it wasn't to plunder, as their simian minds could not begin to fathom the treasures and technologies they possessed.  There was nothing shiny and bauble-like with which they could line their nests or exchange for basal pleasures.

Marooned and exhausted, the Tau had no choice but to clear the outpost of the creatures.  The night had been terrible, and only three crisis suits remained functioning from the constant skirmishes.  The Tyranids had been toying with them, sending in wave after wave of the tiny ones.  Their change in behavior indicated that the larger, more formidable ones were on the way.  If nothing else, the opportunity to destroy a Tyrant would make all of this grief worthwhile...

I don't have the nice terrain Brian does...but hey, it's a batrep ain't it?
View from the North / View from the South

The idea is that it was the last stand of an Imperial base...or so we tried to emulate.

Andy Baran (outnumbering the Nids by 34): I am really interested in seeing how the Tau fare against the highly lethal bugs. The Tau, although known for their firepower, would have more than their work cut out for them if they are to destroy the nigh endless swarm of bugs.

Jeremy Baldridge (all giddy from the spores): I'm borrowing Andy's army to give the Tyranids a try, and while I've played a few friendly games against his Tau, I'm still taking baby steps with the bugs.  Despite the lack of troops in this army, it should still be fun to play because of the variety of units.  My strategy?  Get into close combat ASAP so I can block him from turning the rest of my army into pesto.  I'm mostly worried about the Hammerhead's 72" template rounds, and--as always--being tied up by pesky shield drones.  While he's fielding a lot of infantry, poison spore mines should take care of those threats quite nicely...

Note: The Dawn Assault mission is found in Codex: Chapter Approved.  Both armies are owned and were painted by Andy, and the terrain and tabletop are obviously sub-par, but I'm still getting my basement in shape for games.  I'm also trying out my new digital camera, so some of the pics are kind of blurry.  This thing has more buttons and dials than Mr. Peabody's Wayback Machine.  Oh hell, I think I just dated myself.  Anyway, I figured no one would care since there hasn't been a new batrep for a while (Jeremy).

Deployment:

Genestealers infiltrate first behind the forest to try and thwart the unguarded flank.

Kroot infiltrate in almost the exact same position opposite the battlefield.

A Kroot parakeet's view of the impending carnage.
