Eldar Harlequins vs Dark Eldar
Night Fight

The revelry was bizarre and sadistic, as chemicals were poured into injectors like cocktails and the blood of ally and captive alike was spilled for amusement. Souls were harvested and ingested before they could escape into the night sky like the embers of the bonfire. The day's battle was a success, and the Kabal gathered enough slaves and goods to trade for a substantial amount of coin and new weaponry. The noise of the celebration was so raucous that even the forest creatures in hibernation were roused and forced to move along. Those that weren't shot as targets to add to the feast quickly disappeared into the slyvan background.

Camped some distance away were the Harlequins, that regretfully aided the Kabal earlier in the day. Perhaps the order was confused, or there was something they owed the Kabal--that was the only reason they would have joined forces. Since they could not sleep because of the noise, they stood and trained in their arts about the fire. It would be only one more day before they'd go separate ways, and they would see their darker undisciplined kin no more.

Despite the noise, they heard several from the Kabal approach, blitzed out of their minds on hallucinogens. As the Harlequins reached for their arms in self-defense, the drugged Warriors opened fire--believing it to be a threat. Their bodies were immediately torn apart by shuriken fire from the unscathed Harlequins. The remainder of the Kabal quickly noticed this, and turned to account for their losses...

Andy Baran (got his whole army, in his hands): I'm always looking for a challenge, and winning with the Harlequins seemed like the perfect one for me. Besides, I am quite proud of my Harlequin army, which I painted over the course of a weekend (I think I can win a speed painting contest). Harlequins do not have enough troops to take table quarters, so the only way I can effectively counter this is to deprive my opponents of their ability to take table quarters. Of course, trying to track down a fast-moving army can prove to be deadly. I've seen my opponent's Haemonculus/Reaver combos tear apart entire armies, so I'll try to kill them off quickly.

Jeremy Baldridge (one of those "quiet" guys): I think I'm in for a surprise this whole battle, because I know very little about Harlequins aside from the ancient Battle Book and a glance at a precodex off the net. I know they're fargin' nasty in close combat, and get cover saves against everything but flamers and CC. So, I'm going to pump as many rounds into them as I can, and gush acid with full effect--hoping they go down. On top of it all, we rolled Night Fight, so Andy will fully enjoy that protection from my shooty army. Then again, by the same token, I should get a little protection from the SIX IC's running around willy-nilly with Bright Lances. That's going to be a real test of my army's manueverability. All in all, whatever happens, I'm glad to be fighting an army other than Space Marines, and Harlequins should be an exotic treat. I'll be a bit embarrased if my entire army gets killed off by 19 models, but like Andy says, that's about the only way he can claim a victory. Still, from what I've read and heard, Harlequins can open up quite a can in the right situation... This is the second full batrep I've put together, so enjoy.

Note: We're trying something a little unorthodox in this one, in that when models are killed we lie them down for a dramatic "body count" effect, and remove them at the end of the phase. That way, it's easier to see how close combats are resolved, and well... just adds to the carnage effect.

Deployment:

Sheer numbers and guns face off against incredible martial skill and technology.

A bird's eye view of the armies' deployment.
