Blood Angels vs Dark Eldar
Wasteland
Skrap
The rain was greasy and dark with impurities as it filtered down through the layers of smog and dust. The dead planet still glowed decades later, from the fallout from a global nuclear war. Searchlights blazed through the obscurity, illuminating decayed vehicles with the skeletons of civilians still slumped at the wheels. Traffic lightpoles wilted and signs were scoured clean from years of acid baths. It was a land of rust and bone. "...and to think I was born here," one of the Blood Angels whispered over his helmet commlink.
Nothing, absolutely no salvage was turned up. All of the metals were weakened and corroded. All of the fuels had long since been siphoned by hoarders--who in turn died from radiation poisoning in their hidden bunkers. Despite the backwater technology of the slug throwers and pipe bombs used in the mutant uprising against them, the heathen managed to take out half of the Blood Angel company's vehicles. With no replacement hardware or panels to protect it from the elements--much less fuel, the marine company would never make it to the extraction point.
As the 3rd Company returned to their base camp near an emptied fuel derrick, they witnessed strange shapes looming over the plastic domes. Their wounded were being hoisted to the decks of Dark Eldar skiffs, on the barbs of hooks and in lariats. A thing known as a "Talos" hovered from the base of a dome it had torn open, a twitching body of their brethren in its jaws and in each claw. Two gaunt Haemonculi on jetbikes oversaw the operation, seemingly unconcerned with the acid rain sizzling on their flesh. Before Chaplain Argus could open his mouth to give the order to attack, one of the Raiders whirled about in the air like an angry black wasp--dumping the sedated Human cargo to the radioactive earth as it launched a bolt of electrostatic vortex into the ground mere yards before them. The Chaplain, unimpressed, punctuated his order to charge with oaths unbefitting of a holy man...

Jeff Chua (Got the Fever for the Flavor): This one is sure to be a nail-biter! My army lacks long range firepower, so I'll have to close with the Dark Eldar quickly. There won't be much terrain for me to hide in, so I'll need the first turn to throttle forward under smoke. Blood Angels foot-slogging across open terrain in a table quarters mission with Dark Eldar flying about won't be pretty. The plan is to sit my Whirlwind and Sergeant Celaeno's and Raius' missile-launcher Tac Squads in my deployment zone to bring the small squads below 50% and drop Raiders. I hope to present Jeremy with enough initial targets so that he'll leave these units unmolested, while initiating a two-pronged attack along the sides of the two unoccupied quadrants; one lead by Chaplain Argus and his fearless Death Company and the other lead by Librarian Met'is and his Honor Guard. Each of these attack columns will be supported by a Rhino-mounted Tactical Squad and Land Speeder. |

Jeremy Baldridge (part Evil, part Spiffy): Hmmmm, DE vs BA, with sparse, short terrain--in a variation of Cleanse. Hmmmmm! I do love a challenge, and the Wasteland Skrap mission may make my job a bit easier if I can pop all the Rhinos and inspire him to guard them while I pick off his troops with Disintegrators and Destructors. While he does have an "advantage" of starting with six vehicles, and I only have four, he just has that many more eggs to avoid breaking. In the last game with Jeff, his Death Company, Land Speeders, and characters gave me the most trouble (and one annoying Missile Launcher guy I left for dead). He's changed up his list a bit, so I'm VERY worried about what the Speeders can do now with meltas. I really have no fixed tactics, since I could end up having a rather large army getting squashed into a corner in turn one, and fragged to hell by a Whirlwind. If anything I'll fan out and try to get off as many shots as possible, and see if he scrambles forward or backwards. Not only am I writing this batrep, but I also took the pictures. My ability with a camera is rank amateur, but it's getting better. |

Note: We're using the Wasteland Skrap scenario found here. Units that fall back do so towards the nearest friendly live vehicle, or destroyed vehicle (friend or foe)--whichever is closer. We felt it would be a bit cheesy just to be able to drive up to a squad, disembark, shoot, break morale, and wipe out the enemy in a crossfire just because they fall forward through the disembarked squad--hence the distinction of live and dead vehicles. Units that advance or fall back towards a vehicle do not overshoot the distance once in contact, but their die rolls still stand for purposes of pursuit. Units within 6" of a vehicle (live or dead) at the end of their turn automatically rally.
ALSO, Jeff has elected to use the new Vehicle Transport Rules (i.e. Firing Ports/Access Hatches) as they apply to his Rhinos. They don't apply to Jeremy's Dark Eldar vehicles, as they are open-topped.
Deployment:

The Blood Angels observe the desecration of their encampment.

The Dark Eldar stop their pillaging and move into formation.

"CRUSH THE HEATHEN!"
