Imperial Guard vs Tyranids
Demolition Raid

It was another day in the blistering desert near Ammunition Bunker 342. Just a few men were working in the nearby area. The bunker had been there a long time now, forgotten as the war had moved away. The area was now guarded by some new recruits training before going to the front.

The whole area was completely silent as most of the guardsmen were working underground in the bunker, and the wildlife had long since been killed. Suddenly, the silence broke as the earsplitting alarm of the bunker went off. The few men outside started to run for the bunker just as the Tyranid horde began advancing to the small opening around the bunker.

Looked like the training would be cut short.

Pirkka Jokela (new recruit): I thought this scenario was pretty interesting as it has a defender with a smaller force and a good defensive position. That's very different from the usual "clash of armies" type of scenarios. Then I made my army with the 750 points and realised that for IG, that means two troops, an HQ and almost nothing else. It didn't help that only one vehicle was allowed and fast attack was not allowed at all. Well, better not let the 'nids see me wavering - I'll just have to guess the unit with the bombs. I'm going to keep the heavy weapons in the bunker and put the infantry squads outside to take the heat. If I can destroy the main unit of 19 Termagants and the Tyrant I think I'll have a chance.

Samuli Aura (bug hugger): I was constrained by the Raid organization chart, so only one heavy support choice. Although Biovores are effective against IG, I needed a serious fire magnet, and that meant taking a Carnifex. Also I thought it would be fun to charge in with the whole host of genethirsty bugs. I don't have any Hormagaunts or Gargoyles, so no Fast Attack. But I like Tyranid Warriors, so I took two broods of them and the Lictor as my Elite choices. Who would carry the demo charges? At the moment I haven't still decided, and ... I think it will be the Hive Tyrant.. or maybe...

Ben: For those of you wondering whether or not you can submit your own batreps, the answer is YES! Pirkka and Samuli are university students in Tampere, Finland. They are members of their university role-playing and gaming club, although they play mostly 40K, along with about ten other players. As you can see from their battle report, you don't really have to have much to submit a batrep: a table full of nice scenery, fully painted armies, a camera, good notes, and a clean writing style-- and these guys don't even speak English as their native language! Pirkka did me the added favor of writing the batrep out in HTML and sending it in a zip file along with all the pictures. [Editor's Note: Additional text provided by our official "fluffer," Jeremy!]
