The roar of the Thunderhawks' engines had scarcely faded before the Saracens found themselves under heavy fire from the Eldar protecting the airfield on the Western Plateau. The typically inadequate reconnaissance of the Imperial Guard had not prepared them for this-- though the Eldar were quite prepared indeed.
Their Planetfall was almost flawless, with all of their their transports touching down in tight formation at the end of the runway-- but the Eldar were dug in and fully prepared to meet an assault by the Adeptus Astartes. Bright lances and star cannons blazed, fusion guns roared to life, and the wail of the Banshees soon drowned out the sound of desperate bolter fire.
Commander Farrakhan had no choice but to retreat, and quickly. "Fall back, brothers! Fall back! This zone is hotter than the suns of Tallarn!" The sudden departure of the Marines surprised the Eldar long enough for the Saracens to limp away in their damaged transports. But the Eldar were not far behind in their pursuit...

Planetfall...
The planned Space Marine Planetfall was over almost before it
started. The Eldar were more than ready with a Marine-killing force and ingeniously
deceptive hidden deployment. The Marines had no hope of victory, conceded defeat, and
retreated to the Land Bridge. There, they rejoined the Imperial Guard-- just in time for
the Eldar counter-attack.

Ben and Brian (runnin' like a couple of beat dogs): Our desperate "counter-attack" to contain the fury of the Eldar hinged on going back to the basics that we knew we could count on. The Imperial Guard force that had done so well in the Siegebreaker was brought back almost intact, with only a couple of changes and the addition of the rock-hard Saracens in their AFV's. Much to their opponent's dismay, there were a lot of tanks to crack... |

Andy and Bob (covering the spectrum of skill and luck): I think this is going to be an uphill battle. It's pretty much the same force as last time, plus some Guardians. I really don't place too much stock in them, so I'm considering them to be ablative armor. I took a squad of Swooping Hawks, simply because the blast template is almost assured of nuking a guardsmen unit. The squad is too small for my liking, but it's what we have painted. |
