TURN ONE- Dark Angels: The Whirlwind started things off with a whizz-bang by dropping a load squarely onto the Skarboyz. It only killed one Skarboy, but it cleanly took out the Runtherd who was skulking around nearby. The Grots surely would have run away if they had not been so busy hiding from incoming ordnance. The Dark Angels then began weeding out the Grots to get to the Boyz behind. The Tactical squad killed one more with a frag missile and five with bolter fire, and the Vindicator killed one more Grot and two Slugga Boyz with one horrific explosion. The Dreadnought, sensing no immediate danger, lumbered out of his fortifications to lend his fire to the Tac Squad at his feet, killing another Slugga Boy. The Terminators stood resolute and put four more Slugga Boy notches on their storm bolters.

In an utterly unsurprising move of poor sportsmanship (albeit good sense), the Ravenwing Speeder lifted off and repositioned itself safely behind a grove of trees. The Ork Warboss immediately knew the significance of that maneuver-- the damned thing would likely hide there until the last moment, then zip out to impede his progress and ruin his day.

TURN ONE- Orks: The rest of the Ork army arrived on the scene. After much discussion (and with much needling and prodding of the Grots) the Big Gunz were wheeled into the center battle line-- literally staring down the barrels of the Vindicator and the Whirlwind. Meanwhile, the Slugga Boyz advanced. With the Grots out of the picture, the Slugga Boyz were now screening the Kommandos, who with any luck would reach the Dark Angel vehicles to use their tankbusta stikkbombz. The three light vehicles-- two skorchas and a buggy with a kustom mega-blasta-- zipped ahead. The mega blasta fired, but missed; the skorchas were out of range-- but close enough to be a real threat given just a bit more time to reach their targets.

With sniper rifles and big gunz scavenged from Marines, the Lootas and the Flash Gitz began their firing. The Flash Gitz aimed remarkably well for all their Orky enthusiasm, but had forgotten to remove the tracer rounds from their drums and caused no casualties. The Lootas took aim with their sniper rifles, firing at hip level instead of using the scopes. Before they had a chance to figure out their error, one of their own was dead from friendly fire.
