Deployment: Welcome to the "feedback" section for this week's BatRep. Two questions arose during deployment. First, the scenario states that armies are deployed in a certain order: Heavy Support first, then Troops, Elites, HQ, and finally Fast Attack. Which of the following is correct:
a) When a player has deployed all of his selections from a certain category (Heavy Support, Troops, etc.) he immediately moves on to deploy from the next category.
b) When a player has deployed all of his selections from a certain category, his opponent must then continue deploying from that category until all selections of that type are deployed. Both players then move to deploy from the next category at the same time.
In other words, do all Heavy Support choices for BOTH armies have to be deployed before any Troops are deployed?
The second question comes in regard to transports that are not purchased "attached" to a squad-- in this case the Falcon. Does the Falcon deploy first, during Heavy Support, or can it wait and be deployed with the Dire Avengers, during Troops deployment? Or do the Dire Avengers deploy with the Falcon during Heavy Support?
How do you play it? Click here and email us!
(1) We choose a); once a player is finished deploying heavy support, he immediately moves on to the next category even if his opponent is not yet finished deploying heavy support. --tom mccarthy
(1) For deployment order, I think b). The rationale is that the Heavies go on first because they are the noisiest and easiest to see as the enemy approaches, so you would position your units accordingly. They are also the least maneuverable, conceptually speaking. So ALL Heavy Support should be placed before moving on to the next category. (2) If a Falcon is purchased as heavy support, it is not affiliated with the squad in any way. In fact, it can carry any squad it wants to over the course of the game. So, it is deployed during Heavy Support time, and if you want the Avengers in it, when troops roll around, declare that they will be inside. Since it is not a "dedicated" squad transport, I think it MUST be deployed during Heavy Support time. --quinn kelly
(1) We have been playing where a player must always deploy a unit, if he has run out of heavy choices (or brought none at all) then s/he moves on to a troops choice. However, a very good argument can be made for waiting until everyone's units of that category could be placed. (2) Transports which are bought from the Heavy Support section are deployed as heavies...After all, they are heavies. The crux is that they are deployed empty. If during the HQ deployment phase a player wishes to deploy an HQ squad inside of the vehicle, then by all means. --john starr
The Eldar are positioned to
move fast; the Necrons calculate their odds are better in cover.
