Esteemed Inquisitor Falco:
Operations in the Dun sector are finally underway. Our informant moves among the enemy camps and has been 100% correct in her reports so far. As suspected, the preponderance of hostiles in the area are from our own Adeptus Astartes, with legions of Blood Angels and Space Wolves confirmed. More to the point, my personal escort encountered a chapter fighting under the banner of the "Celestial Knights." The name is unfamiliar to me as loyalists, heretics, or simply lost children, but you know the Ministorum's stance where the Adeptus Astartes-- of any kind-- are concerned. If we had encountered the Emperor's personal champion, or Leman Russ himself come back from the dead, our mission was clear. Image datalogs of the Celestial Knights and a complete report to follow.

Special League Report!
This batrep is brought to you courtesy of the 40K league currently underway at Comic Quest (West Dundee, IL). The rules of the league call for 750 point army lists. One interesting feature is that you can change your forces from game to game as long as you stay within the same Codex. That being said, I was tempted to play my Space Marines, since I have the most variation within my collection to adapt to the league. But I had a sneaking suspicion there would be too many Marine players as it was, so I took my Sisters of Battle along just in case. I don't expect to win many games with them, but I feel like I have already won the moral high ground by fielding a nicely painted and unusual force.

I'll be bringing you my league battle reports as long as my opponents do not object. On the plus side, this means more batreps-- on the downside, the league players are locked into their codex selections, so expect lots of Sisters vs. Marines reports to show up here! Don't worry, though, our group will maintain our usual routine to keep the mix interesting. Now let's see how the Sisters fared...

View from the North / View from the South

Ben (the righteous arm of the Emperor): I went with a fairly standard Sisters army-- not quite everything I had painted, but pretty close. Most notably I was absent my usual Inquisitor, Callidus, and my Seraphim. My main fear was anti-tank capability-- I had precious little of it. Fortunately the Celestial Knights were all foot troops.

Brian Wenberg (Celestial Knights, misunderstood Space Marines): Brian went with a respectable Marine force-- respectable in that, unlike the majority of Marine players in the league, it was neither Blood Angel, nor vehicle-heavy. His multiple six-man squads were also expertly painted, another mark in his favor. Unfortunately, since all of my squads had transports and all of his were footslogging it, he didn't seem happy about his prospects of winning a Rescue mission, despite the friendly mood his sportsmanship brought to the table.

Sisters of Battle Deployment: I lost the die roll for deployment, so once the markers were mixed up and placed on the table, I set out my Troops selections. I had intended for my second Battle Sisters Squad-- The Purifiers-- to be mounted in the extra Immolator, but unfortunately they had to wait for it to show up from reserves. On the plus side, I had two squads out on the table, including one Rhino, and four out of six markers were closer to me than they were to the Celestial Knights.

Sisters of Battle deploy against Brian Wenberg's Celestial Knights.

Space Marine Deployment: Although I didn't make it easy to draw a line of sight to my initial deployment, I think Brian was unfamiliar with the short-range nature of the Sisters and over-cautious of return fire. His Tac Squad's missile launcher was capable of taking out my lone Rhino-- even his Scouts' heavy bolter could do the trick, with luck-- but Brian did not deploy in line of sight of my troops.
